Artistans Crafters Application Process


Thank you for your interest in the Ventura County Certified Farmers’ Market Association (VCCFMA). As a non-profit farmers’ cooperative, the VCCFMA provides traditional farmers’ markets with an emphasis on agricultural and food items. In certain market sites and under strict guidelines, the VCCFMA will allow the sale of hand crafted artisan products or handmade craft items. These vendor booths will display only items that are in good taste and appropriate for family viewing. Before admittance ALL items will be juried and approved for their appropriateness and appeal to the market atmosphere and community at large.

Handcrafted Requirements
Artisan items selected for sale in a VCCFMA market will be selected for their integrity and direct marketing value. A wide variety of items and price scale will be selected to represent the many art and craft styles. A requirement of the selection process is that photos showing your items and your booth set up are attached with your application. A request may be made to see product samples before the approval determination can be made. Mass produced, imported, cottage industry or commercially produced items are not allowed in any form. Retailing of commercial items and wholesale products do not meet the handcrafted criteria. Prepared food items, cut flowers, potted plants or any FRESH agricultural items such as fruits and vegetables are not allowed in any form in this section. Sale of plain items is not permitted as every item must have adornment or show some type of artistic application. Product lines cannot be changed without prior approval once market space has been granted.

Space and Displays
All spaces are 10” by 10” and are generally free standing, without space for a vehicle. If more booth space is required, additional spaces may be purchased. Spaces are granted under the sole discretion of the VCCFMA. Any special requests should be noted on the application form. Each vendor is responsible for their display and must be completely self-sufficient. This includes cash boxes, change, canopies, chairs, rugs, etc. All vendors must maintain their area in a clean and safe condition throughout the day. Canopies, umbrellas or other display equipment MUST BE SECURED DAILY from the wind and customer bumping. A schedule will be provided that will detail when vehicles can be moved about market area. It is expected that all booths will remain for the duration of the show unless bad weather causes early cancellation by market management.

CA Board of Equalization Permits
All participants must collect California sales tax at the market on taxable items and report these sales through their own tax reporting system. Your permit must be carried with you and available for inspection or display each market day. Please enclose a copy of your permit with your application.

Space Fee
The cost for all artisan vendors will be a flat space fee for each 10×10 space. Additional space may be purchased as space permits and with management approval. Spaces may be approved for a weekly, bi-monthly, monthly or a rotational basis based on the needs of the market and space allowances.

All markets in the VCCFMA operate RAIN OR SHINE. It is expected that all approved participants will be in attendance unless proper cancellation notification is given. If your products may be damaged by bad weather, please note on application and it will be your responsibility for proper cancellation procedure.

Application Process
It is recommended that you first visit the market you are interested in attending and introduce yourself to the market staff and if possible bring samples of your products by for their viewing. Our staff can assist you with an idea of the market’s needs and the type of consumer demographics this market serves and whether your product would be a good fit for this market.

You will receive notification that your initial application has been received and placed on a waiting list. All completed applications are held on file until there is an opening. This may at times, be an extended period of time, even up to years. Selections are made based on contractual arrangements with market site owner, quality of craftsmanship, the needs and demographics of the VCCFMA market, space limitations, vendor history with the VCCFMA and product variety and uniqueness.

When there is an opening for your products, you will be notified first by telephone to determine continued interest, asked to bring in a sampling of your products for an interview and then if accepted by formal written invitation. You will receive a copy of the current VCCFMA Market Rules & Regulations at this time.
